Journaling Prompts

A sense of adventure pervades some of our lives - wanderlust, the desire to travel, explore and expand. For some of us, being home feels more safe. Which camp are you in? Where would you go and what would you do? Do you like the feeling of adventure that comes from taking chances - either being a daredevil or engaging in risky behavior?

Can you go home again? Is there a special location from your childhood or recent past that holds a lot of energy or meaning for you? Are there holy places that carry significance for you? Do you believe that a physical place can be imbued with spirit? A place of worship perhaps, or nature?

In past generations, many people stayed in the place they were born. Today the world is smaller - and some choose to live far from their place of birth. What's your choice and why?

Passages - Life and Death:

We are all on one journey - the journey of life. The passage of time impacts us all differently, and doesn't stay the same over time. Do you feel spiritual about the journey of life or are you matter-of-fact about it? Do you worry about the meaning of the journey, why you're here or not?

What inner journey has felt like an unending trek to you? Struggles and difficulties are part of everyone's life - but some feel bigger than others. Have you experienced journeys that seemed insurmountable?

Journeys involve decision making and a series of choices. How do you navigate the bumpy roads on your travels and stay on an even keel? Are you a solo or group navigator - do you like to go it alone in difficulot times or call a friend?

The Path We Choose:

You might think of a journey as a physical adventure, but often a journey is a set of experiences we select – a way to spend our life or the way we aim toward our future. What journeys have you undertaken that have brought you a sense of inner adventure or a direction? Why did you choose the path you did and how has it impacted your life for better or worse?

Every day you may make progress. Every step may be fruitful. Yet there will stretch out before you an ever-lengthening, ever-ascending, ever-improving path. You know you will never get to the end of the journey. But this, so far from discouraging, only adds to the joy and glory of the climb.

Sir Winston Churchill

You must dare to disassociate yourself from those who would delay your journey... Leave, depart, if not physically, then mentally. Go your own way, quietly, undramatically, and venture toward trueness at last.

Vernon Howard
