Journaling Prompts

Nighttime: Do you rememr your sleeping dreams? Are they in black and white or color? Are your dreams more involved and complex or do you wake with an automatic understanding of what your dreams mean? What symbols appear in your dreams regularly? Do you have recurring dreams? What about nightmares? Are yours about things that would only be scary to you or scary to anyone?

Fantasies: Do you give yourself the freedom to daydream and imagine a future different from your current life? Do you ever feel guilty about those thoughts or feelings? In what arenas of life do your fantasies reside – romance, wealth, fame? Are you more of a realist – do you stop yourself from having fantasies about your life so you won’t be disappointed?

Dream Come True: Have you had the wonderful experience of a cherished wish becoming reality? When you learned about the good news, did it feel real or like you were living in a dream? Were you surprised, or did you keep the faith about your wish so that you had confidence that it would be?

End of the Road: Have you had the experience of having to relinquish a dream for your life – too short to be a basketball player, wish you could be the next American Idol but you can’t carry a tune? How have you made peace, or not, with what you cannot achieve?

Imagine: Sometimes when I hear John Lennon’s iconic song, “Imagine”, I feel like it is truly from a time gone by, like a message from a past era when there seemed to be more support for being a ‘peacenik.’ Do you ever imagine a time when all will be at one? Do the words of the song ring true to you – is it possible for people to stop creating boundaries that divide and join together? Like in the song, if you could imagine our world without something, what would it be? Would you choose to live for today instead of waiting for a future heaven? Eliminate borders, religious differences or greed?

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today...

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one
