Journaling Prompts

Guidance: Where does your strongest and most reliable guidance come from? On whom do you lean most when needing to find or clarify your direction? Have you ever been let down when seeking guidance? Or surprised when amazing guidance arrived unexpectedly?

Wrong Way: What markers do you use to determine if you’re heading in the correct direction for you and your personal goals? Do you sometimes get farther along a path than you’d like before correcting your aim? Has the wrong way ever ended up being a critical juncture on your path to your true destination?

Trending/Course or Tack: Direction isn’t just about the destination – it’s also about the motion that it takes to get there. Are you someone who moves quickly or slowly? Are you more inclined to take a straight path, or one that meanders? Is it satisfying for you to get to your destination as swiftly as possible, or do you enjoy taking the long way?

Location: Where you choose to land matters. We all make choices of where to be at different points in our lives. Why do you choose one place today if different from where you started? Did you know where you were going at the start of the journey? Are you propelled more by a sense of adventure or a sense of place?

Happiness is a direction, not a place.

I find the great thing in this world is not so much where we stand, as in what direction we are moving: To reach the port of heaven, we must sail sometimes with the wind and sometimes against it - but we must sail, and not drift, nor lie at anchor.

Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr.
